In 1980, one of Colorado’s and the nation’s leading integrated marketing agencies was founded
in the basement of a home in Longmont, Colorado. Now, 40 years later, Avocet Communications
continues to flourish and to help brands all over the country ignite their business and drive the
bottom line.
Avocet was founded by Kit Sutorius with the ever-present goal to stir up the worlds of
marketing and advertising. With the vision to create “advertising that makes a sound,” Sutorius
set out to craft campaigns that rose above the humdrum buzz of other agencies. By 1989, the
“one-man shop” model had expanded to include Sutorius’ daughter, Lori Jones.
Jones became president and CEO in 2014 when Sutorius retired.
Throughout 2020 the agency will be honoring Sutorius’ legacy and celebrating in many ways
with the team and with clients.
Approaching every client from a fully integrated marketing perspective, Avocet has been named
one of Colorado’s Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses by ColoradoBiz magazine multiple times,
been included in The Denver Business Journal’s list of Top 25 Advertising Agencies in the state,
and been named to BizWest’s Mercury 100 list year-over-year.
The Agency has earned a national reputation for helping its clients increase customer count through integrated marketing communications solutions. The agency represents B2B, B2C, retail, social enterprises, nonprofits, and entrepreneurial start-ups from around the country. Its strategic team of marketing, creative, media, PR, and online professionals build campaigns and top of mind awareness for its clients through innovative, ROI-based branding, marketing, advertising, media relations, social, and digital strategies.
