Voice search is HUGE! Every marketing agency is working around the clock, implementing strategies that help their clients ensure that their websites are fully optimized for this voice-enabled technology that allows the user to use a voice command to search the Internet or a portable device.
Let’s put it in perspective. According to Google, 41 percent of adults, and over half of teenagers use voice search on a daily basis. Moreover, 20 percent of all mobile questions asked via Google, are voice searches. Like I said, HUGE! And, it’s not just asking for directions or for the hours of operation of your favorite dry cleaner. It’s Google Home, Amazon Echo, personal assistant devices, and smart speakers in every room of your house. The trend is only increasing. Pundits are in a heated debate as to the exact figure, but some say that by 2020, half of all searches will be voice searches.
Optimizing for Voice Search
This means that SEO is now even more critical to helping our clients grow awareness for their brands and literally “get found” in a search.
Not long ago I had Duane Forrester, vice president of industry insights for Yext, on the Integrate & Ignite podcast and he strategies for optimizing voice search and discovery. This is a great episode. Take a listen and you’ll learn (among other things!) how to make your brand the best answer in search, and how to become “the featured snippet” on Google search. Listen here.
